Head Coach: Stacy Largent
Coach Largent grew up in Rusk, Texas; and later moved to the DFW area just before high school. He attended Rockwall High School, and in his final year of high school, graduated from Trinity Christian Academy in Dallas. Coach Largent was a 3-year letterman in football and 4-year letterman in baseball.
After high school he earned his B.S. degree from Howard Payne University where he pitched for the baseball team, helping his team achieve back-to-back conference titles. Coach Largent has a degree in English and Kinesiology.
Since graduating from college, he has spent the last 26 years teaching and coaching baseball and football in various schools across the great state of Texas. Of those 26 years, he has been a head baseball coach for 16 years. Within those 16 years, his teams have earned 5 district championships, 2 of which were undefeated in district. Of those 16 seasons, his teams have also made 10 playoff appearances. Coach Largent has been the head baseball coach at Independence High School since the opening of its doors in 2014.
Over the course of his 16 years as a head coach, Coach Largent has had the honor of coaching 34 players who were able to advance their playing careers to the collegiate level. Five of those players were able to play at the NCAA Division 1 level, and 4 of those players were selected in the MLB Draft.
He and his beautiful wife, Suzanne, have 2 wonderful children: Gunner (16), who is a 10th grader at Texoma Christian School, and Taylor (21), who is a junior at The University of Texas at Austin. Coach Largent places great value on time with his family, traveling, classic trucks, exercise, and planning for the success of Independence Knight Baseball.
Varsity Assistant: Justin Price
Coach Price grew up in Princeton, TX but graduated from McKinney High School in 2000. He attended Paris Junior College on a baseball scholarship, which is also where he met his wife, Toni. Justin finished his playing career and graduated from The University of Texas at Dallas in 2005 with a BA of Interdisciplinary Studies. In 2006 Coach Price started his Teaching/Coaching career back at McKinney High School. The very next year he was offered the head coaching position at Bland High School, where he spent the next 11 years. Coach Price is in his 3rd year as the Varsity Assistant at Independence High School. He has been married to his Jr. College sweetheart for 15 years, and they have 2 boys - Daylan (11) and Gatlin (4-soon to be 5). When not at work, you can find the Price family at practices and games, or hanging out in the backyard!
Junior Varsity I: Austin Stuart
Coach Stuart grew up in DeRidder, Louisiana where he played football and baseball. After graduating high school in 2013, he attended Louisiana Tech University. Then he pursued his master’s at Texas A&M University. After graduate school in 2018, he returned to his hometown to coach his former baseball team for one season. Coach Stuart then married his wife, Justine, and they moved to Frisco the summer of 2019. This is Coach Stuart’s second year at Independence High School. If he is not coaching, you can find Coach Stuart walking his dogs Elvis and Boudin.
Junior Varsity II: Tommy Callahan
Coach Callahan is from Rowlett, Texas. He graduated from Sachse High School in 2010. He played football at Hardin Simmons University for 2 years, then graduated from the University of North Texas with a Bachelor's Degree in Social Science. Coach Callahan began his career coaching football and baseball at Richardson Berkner High School. After 2 years, he went on to coach for his alma mater at Sachse High School for the following 3 years. This is Coach Callahan's first year at Independence High school and his 6th year teaching/coaching. If Coach Callahan is not working to better the hearts, minds and athleticism of our Independence Knights, you can find him grilling out or playing with his dog, Calvin.
